PhRMA Careers: Director, Rx Response

The Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA) is seeking a Director to manage the programming and advocacy efforts for Rx Response, an independent 501(c)(3) organization of which PhRMA is a co-founder and current Board member.  Information about PhRMA and Rx Response is provided below (see “About…”).

The Director will serve as a subject matter expert pertaining to building community resilience and disaster preparedness.  The Director will lead policy research, commission and/or author reports and manage advocacy campaigns as well as represent and promote Rx Response among private sector, government, and other public health stakeholders.

Responsibilities

The Director will have the following primary responsibilities:

  • Research and Report Writing:  Identify and conduct policy research regarding healthcare preparedness and response as it pertains to clinical care, business continuity, public health and emergency management; commission and/or author reports; analyze and report on best practices, trends, and outcomes.
  • Policy Education and Advocacy:  Build and maintain relationships with key government, private sector and public health stakeholders and engage stakeholders in Rx Response activities; serve as subject matter expert with external partners and represent Rx Response in meetings and speaking opportunities.
  • Other Core Responsibilities:  Manage the monthly program newsletter and blog including authoring posts; plan and facilitate program webinars; assist with social media communications and strategy; support the organization during emergency activations; assist with membership and grant writing efforts; support the Executive Director on additional projects/tasks as needed.

Key success factors for this role include an entrepreneurial spirit, passion for public service and access to healthcare, high energy and a positive attitude.  The individual should have strong multitasking skills and be a creative thinker, problem solver, idea generator and self-starter.  The successful candidate for this role will be flexible and responsive and have the ability to work under pressure both independently and collaboratively.  This candidate should have a strong team orientation, excellent interpersonal and written communications skills and the desire to learn and grow. 

Requirements and Preferences

  • Bachelor’s degree and at least 5 years of public health preparedness/health policy experience within a 501(c)(3) organization;
  • Strong organizational skills, flexibility, and the ability to multi-task in a rapidly changing environment;
  • Collaborative team player with the ability to work independently, take initiative and execute;
  • Excellent interpersonal, writing and public speaking skills with the ability to tailor messaging to audiences as appropriate;
  • Master’s degree in health policy, public health or related discipline preferred.
